Your Trusted Magnetic Bearing Chiller Manufacturer and Supplier in China

ChillerOne magnetic bearing chillers are engineered for zero compressor bearing maintenance, quiet operation, and higher efficiency. These are oil-free chillers that use magnetic bearing technology to reduce operational and maintenance costs.

From our tests and third-party partners, ChillerOne magnetic centrifugal chillers are 47% more efficient than standard centrifugal chillers. According to the U.S. Department of the Navy, magnetic bearing compressors operate more efficiently than screw compressors and reciprocating compressors.

In our magnetic bearing chiller designs, we use a magnetically levitated system. They don’t have mechanical bearings, which implies significant cost savings on maintenance.

Furthermore, there is no wear and energy losses in the bearing due to friction. So, this translates to a more efficient compressor, which saves on the operation costs.

Additionally, these magnetic bearing chillers guarantee low noise operation and minimum vibrations. This is alongside the integrated control system, for an optimal cooling efficiency even during part-load state.

What is A Magnetic Bearing Chiller

A chiller usually consists of five basic components, including a compressor, evaporator, condenser, throttling device, and control system.  A magnetic bearing chiller is a type of chiller that uses a magnetic bearing centrifugal compressor as its compressor.

The core technology is to use magnetic levitation bearings instead of traditional mechanical bearings. It is a high-speed, fully enclosed chiller used to provide cooling for large-scale industries. It is a high-speed, fully enclosed chiller, usually used to provide cooling for large industries, medical fields, large shopping malls, etc.

Magnetic Bearing Chiller Working Principle

The magnetic bearing supports the compressor rotor

The compressor needs to rotate to press the refrigerant, and the bearings are traditionally lubricated by engine oil. When the magnetic bearing is energized, it generates a magnetic force, suspending the rotor in the middle.

Compressed refrigerant

The rotor is suspended steadily, and the motor drives it to rotate (at a much higher speed than the traditional one). Centrifugal force throws the low-temperature and low-pressure refrigerant gas into the compression chamber, where it is compressed into high-temperature and high-pressure gas.

Refrigerant circulation

The cooling water in your factory flows through, taking away its heat, and the refrigerant turns back into a liquid. Then, it is depressurized through the expansion valve and turns into a low-temperature liquid that rushes into the evaporator. The low-temperature refrigerant absorbs heat and vaporizes in the evaporator, helping to remove the heat from the equipment and cool it down.

Control system monitoring

The control system can monitor everything from whether the rotor is suspended, how fast the compressor rotates, to whether the evaporator is overheating. It adjusts the magnetic force and controls the rotational speed based on the data. In case of a power failure, let the rotor settle steadily to avoid damaging the machine.

Magnetic Bearing Compressors

The core of a magnetic bearing chiller is the magnetic compressor. The rotor can be suspended in the middle for rotation without physical contact. This reduces the risk of wear, and the refrigerant efficiency of the magnetic compressor is also higher.

Magnetic bearing compressors can be applied to both air-cooled chillers and water-cooled chillers. Air-cooled magnetic bearing chillers have higher cooling efficiency and are more energy-efficient compared to air-cooled screw chillers.

Magnetic compressors can be installed on old water chillers for renovation and are highly suitable for water chillers that operate under load most of the time.

Magnetic Bearing Chiller Advantages

Energy-saving and highly efficient

When operating at partial load, mag bearing chillers can save 30% more electricity than traditional water chillers.

The U.S. Navy Technology Evaluation Agency (Techval) has measured that the one installed in Rhode Island from 2005 to 2007 saved $26,192 in electricity bills in a year, achieving a 65% reduction in energy consumption. The payback period is only 3.8 years, which is even shorter than your preset target.

Even better, it can operate at a lower condensate water temperature, has a higher heat exchange efficiency, and can maintain low energy consumption even on hot summer days.

Easy to maintain

Magnetic chillers have no mechanical seals, no wear surfaces, and not even gears. The moving parts are 80% fewer than those of oil-lubricated models. This means you don’t have to change the oil regularly, clean the bearings, or worry about refrigerant leakage. It has saved a great deal of maintenance costs and time.

Run quietly

The mag bearing chillers support the rotor by magnetic levitation, with no physical contact, and thus generate much less noise during operation. For environments such as the medical field and commercial buildings that require low noise, magnetic bearing chillers are highly suitable.

Light in weight

Magnetic water chillers are 30% lighter than traditional models, making hoisting and positioning easier. No additional reinforcement is required during installation, and it can be completed in half a day.

Start friendly

The starting current is only about 2 amperes, so the generator power does not need to be too large. If the power grid capacity in your factory is limited or you try to restart it after an occasional power outage, it can start steadily without tripping or getting stuck.

Intelligent load control

The patented capacity control technology can respond quickly to changes in workshop load. The data can also be connected to your analysis platform for remote monitoring of the status, early warning of faults, and more proactive operation and maintenance.

Environmental protection and emission reduction

The refrigerant filling amount is less than that of traditional models, and the evaporator shell is also smaller, which not only saves materials but also reduces the potential risk of leakage. With an oil-free design, the refrigerant is less likely to be contaminated, has a longer lifespan, and meets current environmental protection requirements.

How Can Your Chiller Achieve Energy Conservation

Check the existing chillers

First, make an assessment of the old chiller and calculate the cost per unit of cooling capacity. If it is more than 20% higher than the industry average, the magnetic bearing type can directly save energy – it saves 49% of energy under partial load (Navy Techval data).

Calculate the return period clearly

Preset an investment payback period, for instance, if you require it to be no more than five years. Magnetic bearing machines are a bit more expensive at the beginning, but in the case of the Navy’s one, the investment recovery was only 3.8 years, and the electricity savings already covered the cost.

Copy energy-saving points

After installing the magnetic bearing machine, regularly check the operation data of the compressor: At what time periods and under what loads is energy conservation most obvious? For instance, at night when the load is low, it reduces the frequency to save electricity. Write down these “energy-saving positions”, and adjust similar equipment or working conditions according to this mode to amplify the power-saving effect.

Magnetic Bearing Chiller vs Screw Chiller

  • The screw-type rotor is supported by mechanical bearings, and there is friction when it rotates. It is prone to malfunction and wear. The magnetic bearing type chillers use electromagnetic force to support the rotor without wear.
  • Screw type, but when under partial load (such as less production at night), the motor idles and consumes more electricity. The magnetic bearing type chiller is controlled by frequency conversion. When the load is low, it automatically reduces the speed, which is more energy-saving.
  • The screw type requires a change of lubricating oil. The magnetic bearing type has no mechanical seal, no gears, and fewer moving parts. The maintenance cost is low.

Magnetic Bearing Chiller vs Centrifugal Chiller

  • The centrifugal chillers rely on mechanical bearings and have low partial load efficiency. The magnetic bearing chiller is suspended by electromagnetic force and has a higher rotational speed. It is more energy-efficient under partial load.
  • Centrifugal water chillers need to have their lubricating oil changed regularly. Magnetic bearing-type chillers are not required.
  • When the centrifugal bearing wears out, the rotor will shift, and the cooling capacity will decline rapidly. The magnetic bearing is corrected in real time by sensors, and the rotor is always centered.
  • Ordinary mechanical centrifugal water chillers are cheap, while the initial purchase cost of magnetic centrifugal chillers is higher.
Is It Difficult to Operate A Magnetic Bearing Refrigeration Machine?

The magnetic shaft type water cooler uses a new type of intelligent controller with an intuitive interface.

Daily operations are basically automatic: the frequency is automatically reduced when the temperature reaches a certain level, and it goes into sleep mode when the load is low. It adapts to the workshop’s demands by itself.

How long Does It Take to Recoup The Cost of Using A Magnetic Bearing Chiller?

It depends on how much electricity your old machine consumes, what the electricity price is, and how long it is used in a year. It’s more accurate to calculate it yourself. Subtract the estimated electricity cost of the new machine from the annual electricity cost of the old one, and then divide by the annual savings amount. This is the time to recover the investment. The Naval Technology Evaluation Agency (Techval) determined the average return on investment over 6.4 years.
