Air-Cooled Packaged Chillers
An air-cooled packaged chiller uses fans to discharge heat directly into the surrounding air. It doesn’t need an external cooling tower or water pump, making installation much simpler and more flexible.
Furthermore, the air-cooled system features built-in condenser fans and fin-type heat exchangers, all enclosed in a single, sealed unit. You only need to connect power and chilled-water piping before starting it up. This setup greatly reduces your installation cost and project time.
Meanwhile, there’s no need for frequent water refills or cooling tower cleaning, which saves labor and operational expenses. So if your facility has good air circulation and limited space, an air-cooled packaged chiller can be a smart and economical choice.

Water-Cooled Packaged Chillers
A water-cooled packaged chiller removes heat through circulating cooling water supplied by a cooling tower, offering higher cooling efficiency and steady performance. It works exceptionally well in high-temperature or heavy-duty applications.
This type delivers excellent cooling consistency, helping you achieve stable product quality and reduce defects. It also operates more quietly than air-cooled systems, creating a better environment for workers and the surrounding areas. As long as you perform daily maintenance, cleaning the cooling tower and filtration system, the unit will run continuously for years.
As a result, if your factory already has a cooling water network, a water-cooled packaged chiller will become the better solution.

Expansion of HVAC System in UAE Factory

After the expansion of a manufacturing factory in the UAE, the original central air conditioning system was unable to provide sufficient cooling capacity, and the local outdoor temperature during summer reached 46℃. Chillerone provided a 50-ton packaged air-cooled chiller, which was incorporated into the existing chilled water system as an additional cooling source. The unit does not require a cooling tower and is suitable for operation in high-temperature environments, with a short installation period. After the packaged chiller was put into use, the temperature in the production area of the factory significantly decreased, and the pressure of the central system was relieved. The customer plans to continue using the same series of units in the second phase of the expansion.

Watch how the packaged chiller delivers stable temperature control, fast cooling response, and reliable performance in real industrial working conditions.
What is a Packaged Chiller
A packaged chiller is a cooling unit that integrates all major components—compressor, evaporator, condenser, and control system—into one compact base. It circulates refrigerant to absorb heat from water and release it outside, giving you stable and reliable cooling for your production. With its compact structure, you can install and use it more easily, and simultaneously reduce your operational costs.
Features and Benefits of Packaged Chillers
Reliable and Flexible
Each packaged chiller undergoes strict testing before delivery, ensuring stable operation even in high temperatures and humidity. Unlike split systems, the packaged design reduces on-site welding and connection points, which brings you fewer refrigerant leaks and failures.
More importantly, a packaged chiller can be customized to match your process needs—whether it’s cooling capacity, compressor type, or control system setup. When you relocate or change your production layout, you can easily move or reconfigure the unit. Therefore, choosing a packaged chiller also offers you space to grow and save in the future.
Suitable for Limited Space
In factories, labs, or equipment rooms, space is often a big challenge. The compact, all-in-one design of the chiller helps you save valuable floor area. For companies facing high rental costs, this machine is extremely attractive.
If you’re still using a traditional chiller system that requires a separate machine room, long piping, and a cooling tower, you’re spending more time and money on installation and maintenance. A packaged chiller, however, is plug-and-play—you just connect the power and water lines, and it’s ready to go. It keeps your workspace cleaner, safer, and more organized.
Reduce Your Energy Consumption
Packaged chillers are equipped with high-efficiency compressors and heat exchangers, which can cut your energy waste. During production processing, even small temperature changes can affect your product quality.
With smart control systems, these chillers adjust cooling output in real time, keeping the temperature steady while reducing electricity.
Therefore, purchasing an energy-efficient packaged chiller is a smart long-term move—it helps protect your profits. Ignoring energy efficiency today only means paying more on your future power bills.
Cost-Effective
When choosing a cooling system, you shouldn’t only focus on the initial cost. Long-term profit matters even more. Packaged chillers have a clear advantage here. Their integrated design brings fewer parts, shorter piping, and a simpler system, resulting in fewer breakdowns and lower maintenance costs.
For example, split systems often require frequent calibration and regular servicing, which will slow down your production. A packaged chiller, on the other hand, offers plug-and-play operation and steady performance. You get more work done with less effort—and spend less doing it.
Installation & Maintenance Tips for Packaged Chillers
Make Room for Better Cooling
When you install a packaged chiller, you need to set aside enough space for air inflow and heat dissipation. Ideally, keep at least 1 to 1.5 meters of clearance on all sides. It helps prevent hot air from recirculating and reduces the risk of poor cooling performance.
Moreover, place the chiller on vibration pads or spring mounts to diminish noise and shaking during operation, protecting the floor and connected piping.
At the same time, the installation area should be kept clean, dust-free, and free of corrosive gases. Also, check that the floor is strong and level enough to support the unit. Uneven placement could cause compressor wear or loose pipe joints, shortening the system’s lifespan.
Water Quality Management
Water quality plays a big role in how well your condenser and evaporator exchange heat. It’s necessary to detect the water quality. If it contains too many minerals or impurities, install a softening or filtration system to prevent scale accumulation that could clog copper tubes.
Therefore, it’s best to test the water every 3 to 6 months, keeping the pH between 7.0 and 8.5. For water-cooled chillers, you should apply clean water to the cooling tower and add treatment chemicals as needed to stop algae growth.
Good water management helps you protect your heat exchangers and achieve steady cooling efficiency.
Comprehensive Inspection Before Operating
Check the connection between pipes is tight. Don’t forget to release the air from the system using the vent valve. What’s more, you should carefully inspect the electrical components and all protective devices to ensure that the pressure switch and flow sensor are working properly and the voltage and current are stable.
It’s best to contact a qualified technician for support. They can monitor temperature and pressure readings to confirm everything runs within the manufacturer’s limits. Spending a few extra minutes on this inspection will prevent damage caused by installation mistakes.
Routine Cleaning
Never underestimate the importance of routine cleaning. Once a month, clean the air filters and condenser fins with a soft brush to remove dust. For water-cooled units, flush the condenser tubes regularly to prevent scale buildup.
Inspect pumps, expansion valves, and gauges monthly. If you hear any unique noise or vibration, shut down the unit and check it immediately. More importantly, avoid using corrosive chemicals when cleaning, because they will damage copper tubes.
Developing a cleaning schedule can diminish energy consumption, prevent breakdowns, and lower your operation costs in the long run.
Long-Term Storage and Maintenance
If the chiller won’t be used for a long time, take proper steps to store it safely. Drain all water from the machine and chilled water circuits to prevent freezing and cracking in winter. Keep the inside dry by placing desiccants or briefly running the fan to remove moisture.
Disconnect the power supply and protect the control panel from dust and humidity. To avoid seal damage or compressor lock-up from sitting idle, start the chiller briefly every one to two months to keep the compressor lubricated. Before restarting after a long stop, check refrigerant pressure and electrical insulation to keep you safe.
A packaged chiller integrates all its components into a complete unit. You only need to connect the power and piping to start using it. It saves your time and employment costs, and is very suitable for a limited space.
A non-packaged chiller, however, requires on-site assembly of each part. This process is complex, but it’s better for large projects that need customized configurations.
Most packaged chillers can be installed outdoors, but you should take protective measures. In addition to selecting a weatherproof housing, good ventilation, and corrosion-resistant models, in dusty and rainy regions, adding extra protection like rain covers or dust guards is very necessary.
A packaged chiller combines all its parts into a cabinet, offering a compact design and easy setup. A modular chiller consists of several independent units, which you can add or remove freely. And if one module breaks down, another module can still run, so you can easily maintain and expand the cooling system.
