Ensure Consistent Wine Quality
Chillerone winery chillers maintain the temperature of propylene glycol within an exact range of ±0.5°C or even more precisely throughout the fermentation process. By circulating the cooled propylene glycol through the jacketed fermentation tanks, this system ensures that each batch of wine undergoes the optimal yeast activity temperature curve required, which prevents overheating or uneven fermentation, thus not affecting the aroma, flavor, and taste of the wine. Besides, each fermentation tank can have its own independently set temperature value, and it is monitored and adjusted in real time through an integrated control system. Combined with an efficient heat exchanger, this design prevents temperature stratification within the tank.

Uninterrupted Reliable Operation During Harvest Season
The harvest season puts great stress on the winery’s cooling system as multiple fermentation tanks are operating simultaneously. To guarantee uninterrupted cooling during harvest, our winery chillers incorporate dual-redundant compressors, backup glycol pumps, and a modular design for easy on-site maintenance. Each unit is equipped with an automatic circuit load adjustment function. If one of the cycles experiences overload or minor malfunction, the system will automatically switch to the backup cycle to ensure that the temperature in each fermentation tank remains stable.
Energy-Efficient Cooling for Lower Operating Costs
We achieve lower energy consumption by using high-efficiency compressors, which can adjust the cooling output according to the real-time propylene glycol temperature. Combined with variable-frequency pumps, it ensures that the flow rate matches the demand of the storage tanks. Additionally, our optimized heat exchanger design ensures maximum heat transfer efficiency, thereby reducing power consumption during peak harvest periods and non-operational seasons. What’s more, we use efficient fans and pumps to minimize power consumption to the greatest extent, while carefully selected thermal insulation materials can prevent unnecessary heat accumulation. As a result, stable temperature control can be achieved, bringing significant cost savings to your winery.

Yes. Chillerone winery chiller systems provide low-temperature options, including the ability to operate in an ambient temperature as low as -40°F, ensuring the operating efficiency of your winery no matter how the seasons change.
The size (cooling capacity) of the winery chiller is decided by the total water consumption, ambient temperature, heat generated by lighting and pumps, and the target water temperature. Strictly, it needs a professional heat load calculation. The basic formula is: Required cooling capacity (kW) = Water volume (liters) × Temperature difference × Coefficient / Time. The easiest way is to contact us, and our experienced team will calculate it for you.
We recommend you check and clean the filter monthly, ensure the chemical properties of the water are appropriate to prevent scaling in the system, and conduct a leak test annually. The specific frequency depends on the usage. During the harvest period, the daily operations only require basic monitoring, and no excessive maintenance is necessary.
The components of Chillerone winery chillers are of industrial grade to ensure long-term reliability. If operated correctly, they can be used for more than 10 years.

What is a Winery Chiller?
A winery chiller is an industrial refrigeration system that is used at various stages of the wine production process.
Before the fermentation, our chiller cools wine to a temperature of 40°F in stainless steel tube-in-tube heat exchangers.
During the fermentation process, yeast activity generates heat, which must be carefully controlled to preserve the aroma, flavor, and stability of wines. If the temperature of the wine reaches between 85°F and 105°F, the reaction will stop. Such temperature fluctuations may lead to uneven fermentation, reduced quality, or even the entire batch failing, so the winery chiller plays a vital role.
After the fermentation and before bottling, our winery chillers can stably cool the wine to approximately 27°F and maintain it for up to 24 hours. This process is called cold stabilization, which enables the potassium hydrogen tartrate to precipitate from the wine, allowing for filtration and removal.
Why You Need a Winery Chiller
Specialized Cooling
Standard industrial chillers are not designed for a winery that requires precise and continuous temperature control, especially during the harvest season. Winery chillers are specifically designed for glycol cooling systems, jacketed tanks, and long fermentation cycles.
Energy Efficiency
Chillerone winery chillers are optimized for long-term operation and consume less energy compared to oversized or mismatched industrial coolers. This helps the winery control operating costs throughout the production season.
Future Winery Expansion
As production increases, wineries typically add more fermentation tanks or cooling zones. A well-designed winery cooling system can expand capacity without replacing the entire cooling infrastructure.
Better Control of Post-Fermentation Processes
Beyond the fermentation process, the winery also needs to control the cooling during low-temperature stabilization and other subsequent steps. Winery chillers achieve precise temperature control by using the same propylene glycol system, thereby supporting these processes.
How to Choose a Suitable Winery Chiller?
Making a choice needs to comprehensively consider your specific operational requirements, including production scale, desired energy efficiency, and budget. Key factors include determining the appropriate cooling capacity, selecting the right type of cooling equipment, and evaluating the installation environment. The mixture of water and propylene glycol can remain liquid at temperatures below the freezing point, which is necessary for processes such as low-temperature stabilization. Besides, the glycol also includes inhibitors to protect the system pipes from corrosion.
Each tank with an insulation layer is equipped with a temperature sensor inserted into the insulation well and an automatic valve. When the sensor detects a temperature above the temperature set by the brewer, the control system opens the valve, allowing cooled propylene glycol to circulate through the tank’s external insulation until the desired temperature is reached, then closes the valve.
No. The operation is not complex, and we will provide operating guidelines and remote or on-site support if needed.
This is based on the characteristics of the fermentation process and the design of the storage tank. Our winery chiller system can flexibly adjust the temperature to accommodate different fermentation stages.
